Code of Medical Ethics and Deontology

65_ CODE OF MEDICAL DEONTOLOGY - Article 64.1 A doctor works to preserve the life entrusted to them at all stages. If a woman decides to terminate her pregnancy voluntarily, this does not relieve her doctor of their duty to provide information on the clinical risks that may arise from her decision. Article 64.2 The doctor who legitimately opts for conscientious objection, to which they are entitled, is not exempt from informing the woman about the rights that the State grants her in this matter, nor from addressing on their own or with another doctor, the medical problems derived from termination of pregnancy or its consequences. Article 64.3 The doctor must provide the pregnant woman with adequate, reliable, and complete information on the evolution of the pregnancy and fetal development. It is contrary to Medical Ethics to deny, hide, or manipulate information to influence the mother's decision about pregnancy continuation. Article 65.1 Surrogate pregnancy with financial compensation is contrary to Medical Ethics. Commercialization of a woman's body violates her dignity. Article 65.2 Altruistic surrogate pregnancy is not contrary to Medical Ethics as long as the woman's dignity and the child's best interest are preserved, with timely regulation and control by the National Commission for Assisted Human Reproduction.
